Congrats to former QMC undergraduate researcher Yash Anand for winning the prestigious 2026 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships, which recognize outstanding graduate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The W. J. Carr Lecture Series on Superconductivity and Advanced Materials was established by Dr. James L. Carr ‘ 89, in honor of his father, Walter J. Carr. This year's Lecture was given by Prof. Harold Hwang from Stanford University and the SLAC National Accelerator, covering his discoveries of high-temperature superconductivity in nickelate materials.

New Assistant Professor Frank Zhao is setting up his new lab in QMC to fabricate new materials, study their properties and investigate how they might be incorporated into new technologies. In particular, he is interested in thin 2D and exfoliated materials, as well as in their interfaces -- read about his story and plans here.
