Dan Lathrop selected as the recipient of the American Physical Society's 2012 Stanley Corrsin Award

Details
Published: 01 February 2014

Dan Lathrop was selected as the recipient of the American Physical Society's 2012 Stanley Corrsin Award. The award was established to recognize and encourage a particularly influential contribution to fundamental fluid dynamics.

Professor Lathrop was chosen for, "his striking observations of flow in a quantum fluid including detection of counter-flow that confirmed the two-fluid picture of quantum fluid, observation and characterization of reconnections of quantized vortices, and the discovery of an inverse-cube tail in the velocity distribution of superfluid turbulence."

Michael Fuhrer has been named Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He was honored for experimental studies of the fundamental electronic transport properties of nano structured carbon materials.

Election as a Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers. New Fellows will be presented with an official certificate and a gold and blue (representing science and engineering, respectively) rosette pin on Saturday, 16 February, at the AAAS Fellows Forum during the 2013 AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston, Mass.
